Is there anything we can do about this artifact? This is from a 3 x 3 x 3 HERCULES occipital voxel and shows a symmetrical peak and anti peak centered around 1.5 ppm in all of the spectra. Since it is an occipital voxel it’s possible we have some lipids from the scalp but usually when that happens i see a normal bump in the spectra rather than this diamond shaped thing
Welcome to the world of Stimulated echoes
Here you see how the phase cycling works in order to get rid of them when the spectra are averaged. Because of this cycling, in acquisition #1 the artifact is positive, in acq #2 it’s negative and so on, that’s why you see the diamond shape. After averaging they are nearly gone (if the subject is still).
In your case their intensity is low even comparing to Cr, so I believe they won’t affect the results for the metabolites > 1.7 ppm
